How To Start Going Zero-Waste

How To Start Going Zero-Waste

You don't go from trashy to zero overnight, it can take years, or sooner [depending on how hardcore you want to be about it], to get to that point. Ok. But how and where do you start?!

I get asked this question a lot, and I've got a few tips & approaches you can try out that can help you take some steps in the right direction, and before you know it, you'll be at the mason jar level too!

Some Do's & Don'ts for Throwing a Zero-Waste Party.

Some Do's & Don'ts for Throwing a Zero-Waste Party.

Last Saturday I threw a party in celebration of launching my new business, THE PODGE CO., and my 28th birthday. I didn’t want to do anything huge, just have some people over, have some food & drinks and maybe play a little croquet.

Carl and I have been on the Zero-Waste path for a while now but haven’t done anything to take it up a notch for a bit, so in a whim I decided to try and make our party Zero-Waste...

3 Things I Hate Doing, But Do Anyway...

3 Things I Hate Doing, But Do Anyway...

I guess this would be considered part of 'adulting' - doing things you don’t like to do, or even hate, because you ‘have to’ - but really, we don’t have to do anything. That’s part of the myth of being a human. There isn’t anything we have to do. There’s a lot of societal pressure for us to do things we should do, but we don’t actually have to do any of it.

I’m a big fan of people coming to that realization so that they can then do the work to determine what they want to do with their lives instead of living the life they think they should. That being said, living a life you want still requires doing a lot that you don't want to do or even hate doing.

No Lights Challenge - One Month in the Dark

In October I picked up the book, No Impact Man. I had heard about it a long time ago and added it to my book list to read one day, but just hadn’t gotten to it yet. For some unknown reason, it popped back into my head and I decided it was time to read it and see if it could help me take my environmental lifestyle to the next level.

MONEY // Part 02

MONEY // Part 02

Debt. Most of us have it - in fact, according to a 2015 American Household Credit Card Debt Study, the average household with any of the following types of debt has $15,762 in credit card debt, $168,614 in mortgage debt, $27,141 in car loans and $48,172 in student loans - and an average of $130,922 TOTAL DEBT PER AMERICAN HOUSEHOLD! That. Is. NUTS.

In 2015, there were about 124.6 million American households - so if we're talking strictly averages here, that works out to over $16 TRILLION in debt! Think of what we as Americans could do for ourselves, our families, our country, our world if that wasn't the case!  What if we wanted more than just bigger and better STUFF?!?
